Assess. Plan. Implement. Exceed.
The Sweeney Group is a nationally recognized consulting firm that assists all types of not-for-profit organizations, with emphasis on libraries, historic preservation organizations and public school foundations.
Areas of expertise include all aspects of resource development: capital campaign planning and implementation, campaign planning and feasibility studies, retreats for Boards of Directors and staff, development of annual campaign plans, and resource development department audits. The Sweeney Group specializes in working with organizations that are conducting their first capital campaign.
The Sweeney Group can assist in both the campaign planning and campaign implementation phases. Typically consultants are used extensively in the planning phase then usage decreases after the plan is in place, volunteers are recruited and trained, potential donors identified, and materials prepared. Careful planning is essential for campaign success.
Resource development campaigns include the following processes:

- determination of the roles and time commitment of Board and Staff
- finalization of the campaign goal
- definition of campaign components (i.e. building plans, endowment)
- determination of campaign committee
- identification of lead gifts
- development of a public relations plan
- preparation of the campaign calendar
- development of a case statement
- preparation of campaign materials including brochure and pledge card
- development of a system for tracking pledges and preparing thank you letters
- analysis of potential donors, including gender and other demographic factors
- research and preparation of proposals to local, regional and national private foundations. The Sweeney Group has often worked in cooperation with the Jeffris Family Foundation on historic preservation projects.
